XML, or the "Extensible Markup Language" is a language that is highly extendable (using custom namespaces). An extension of XML is XHTML, which mirrors HTML, but is also valid XML.
SmartFoxServer uses XML for its internal and regular packets (i.e. before login). This is so that parameters can be transferred structurally intact.
